DIY from the Magazine: Doily Snowflakes
DIY Idea: Vermont Vows & WellWed
Take a cue from our Fall/Winter 2011 magazines & embrace the brisk New England weather with this delicate snowflake inspired craft project. This fun DIY was featured in our Fall/Winter 2011 issues of our magazines & now you can try it too! Add some sparkle to any event or room with shimmering snowflakes or add some rustic charm with these antique inspired snowflake doilies.
All you need for this project are doilies – we love vintage ones – scissors, ribbon or twine, PLAID-Stiffy Fabric Stiffener (available at you local fabric supply store), wax paper & a paintbrush. For the first step, fill a bowl with the fabric stiffening solution, then dip your doilies in the solution & swirl them around with the paint brush!
Next - you may want gloves - put the stiffener-soaked doilies on top on your sheets of wax paper & let sit for 24 hours. After 24 hours, try pulling a corner of the snowflake off the paper to make sure it's completely dry & stiff!
Now comes the fun part - hang your snowflakes as garlands from your windows, doorways, or wherever you need a splash of winter fun! If you want your project to sparkle, apply a tiny bit of glue & add a few dashes of glitter. Try this DIY & others to embrace winter as a fun & festive season!
