These days it seems like more & more brides are becoming interested in the concept of the vintage bird cage veil.

To indulge & inspire the brides looking to create this look for their own special day, Stacy, of Stacy K Floral, shares with us her DIY party for this aspect of her own wedding just this past May, featured on page 55 in the S/S 10 issue of WellWed Magazine in New York.

"When I researched getting a truly unique headpiece they seemed to be running in the range of $400 & above & I couldn't really find anything that I was in love with, so I hit the web, (I wanted them to be pretty colorful). Creativity isn't something that scares me, so I thought it might be fun to get my entire bridal party involved in making their headpieces for the upcoming special day," Stacy recalls.

Stacy's Recipe For A Headpiece Party:

1) Feathers (a must in my opinion)

2) Crystals (Swarovski have the most sparkle)

3) Something to get it to attach to your head (we chose metal hair combs per the hair dresser's request & a small hat form for me, the bride)

4) Hot glue gun

5) Craft glue that dries clear

6) Tooth pics (the crystals are very small)

7) Russian veiling (which I Googled & found a ton of sources online)

8) Some large crystals or broaches

9) Photos of other headpieces for inspiration

10) And some fancy martinis to loosen up those petrified of creativity:)

"Then we just got started! To create the veil, we found it easiest to gather most of the veiling--leaving some for the hair dresser to pin around the side of the face-- & attached it to the comb with fishing line. We added a little glue for extra support. Next, we just kind of created each others... I noticed when the ladies were building them for themselves they were being very conservative but when they did each others they got a little bit more risky," Stacy says, "From there we just had fun--we even ended up creating a few extra!"

If this scares you, Stacy K Floral has been custom designing them for several brides & is even entertaining the idea of assisting people with DIY parties--so don't hesitate to ask!

Coming soon Stacy K Floral will have a line available at Peggy's Bridal in Pittsford, New York.
