1. Can you tell our readers, what exactly is Boudoir Photography?

The simplest answer is "sexy photos." I interpret that as soft, colorful photos that hint at sexiness. I take tasteful photos that really highlight the girl's best features and make her feel gorgeous.

2. Do you find that most of your clients are brides-to-be or do they also include women from other walks of life?

Most of my clients are soon-to-be brides that want to not only surprise their finance, but also want to remember how amazing they felt and looked right before they got married. I've had quite a few non-brides, too—army wives who want to send a little black book to their husbands overseas, single girls who are proud of how they look, girls wanting to surprise their boyfriends, moms who worked hard to get back into shape, etc.

3. How did you get started in Boudoir Photography?

About three years ago, I heard of boudoir photography and was instantly hooked. I wish it had been around when I was getting married six years ago! Before starting boudoir photography, I had done a lot of work with models, and this was very similar, except with "normal" people. I really love working with brides and grooms on their wedding day because it's a chance to make people feel beautiful who don't usually get all dolled up. It's the same with boudoir; all the women who have come to me for boudoir have never done something like it before. To see how excited and amazing they feel after seeing the photos, to me, that's exactly why I do what I do.

4. What should someone expect when from a boudoir shoot with you?

Before the shoot, she'll get advice (from the very beginning, I explain how the process works and what to expect from the shoot), a great studio to come to, and professional makeup services. During the shoot, she can expect to feel comfortable. Most people are nervous, and that's completely understandable. With me, know that I'll probably make you laugh and by the end you'll be strutting around. I tell everyone that and they never believe me until the end of their session! After the shoot, she'll get beautiful photos, and each one that she orders for her album is retouched. Then she can expect to get a breathtaking album to display her photos. I offer an array of high quality, modern albums. My most popular product is a "little black book,” a small and discrete black leather photo album. But I also have larger albums and wall hangings for those who are looking for something a bit bolder.

5. Any tips for our readers on getting the best pictures?

Most importantly, relax. If you're nervous, your poses are stiff and your face looks awkward. I know it's easier said than done, so I give you time to get used to the process, and to laugh a little at yourself. Other little tips include: don't wear tight bras, pants or socks the day of the shoot because it leaves marks on your skin; bring way more outfits than you plan on wearing so you can see what looks best in the studio; and bring accessories - necklaces, earrings, stockings, boots, and heels all look awesome.

6. Why do you think Boudoir Photography has become so popular in recent years?

I think it's part of the trend to really customize one's wedding. When my husband and I started shooting weddings seven years ago, most of the weddings were the same. I admit, even I didn't really personalize my wedding six years ago because I thought there was protocol I had to follow. Now it's so different! Every wedding is so different; people really put a lot of their personalities into the day. Boudoir (like engagement shoots that are also really popular now) is definitely a different way to celebrate and remember this period in your life. Planning a wedding can be really stressful; boudoir is a good way to pamper yourself!
