Though Lynsey and Jay worked at the same company and frequently crossed paths, they never officially met untl two days before Valentines Day, when a coworker introduced the two. After meeting, Jay decided to email Lynsey on Valentine's Day to ask her out on a date. Lynsey accepted and they made plans for a date about a week later, to which Jay arrived to pick Lynsey up and she found him knocking on her neighbor's door. It was a laugh for the both of them and set the night up to be light and fun. Their first date went so well that it ended up lasting until the early hours of the morning. "I knew after that date hew as someone special that I wanted to have in my life for a long time," says Lynsey. Within three months of meeting Lynsey decided that it was time for Jay to meet her mom. Lynsey's mom immediately knew that he was the one and before the night was over told Lynsey this very idea, little did she know that her mom was right.
After dating for two and a half years, Lynsey was ready to take the next step. She started hinting to Jay that she was waiting and ready to be proposed to. He always said that he wanted to wait till they both graduated with their Masters degrees, but Lynsey didn't have to wait long. Several months later, in December, Lynsey graduated and it was only a short time later that Jay called her father to ask for his blessing. Of course, Lynsey's father was excited and granted Jay his well wishes for his proposal.
Lynsey and Jay were to celebrate her graduating with a romantic dinner that he was going to make for her. When she came home that night she found roses on the table which was a sweet and surprising gift from Jay. After eating delicious salmon and risotto he stood up from the table and bent down on one knee. Knowing what was coming, Lynsey began to cry tears of joy. Finally, they were engaged.
Jay and his family spent most of his summers growing up on Martha's Vineyard. He especially enjoyed sailing at the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club. As a couple they spent time there, as well and Lynsey fell in love with it, too. They enjoyed the beautiful beaches, sailing, and visiting Jay's friends and family. Jay and Lynsey knew that Martha's Vineyard was the perfect destination for their wedding.
Earlier that year Lynsey's grandmother had passed away and Lynsey wanted a way to incorporate the passing of loved ones at the wedding. They were able to get photos of the passed family members and placed them elegantly on a table to remember those who couldn't be there on their special day. Lynsey also chose a green seersucker pattern for her bridesmaid dresses and to her surprise, it was her grandmother's favorite pattern. To Lynsey and Jay everything was perfect, and tears were brought to Lynsey's eyes when she saw how beautiful the floral arrangements and her bouquet turned out to be. Their love for the beach was also incorporated with their wedding cake, shaped as a sand castle, which was a big hit with the guests. Lynsey and Jay had a spectacular day and after sharing it with all of their closest relatives and friends, they couldn't have asked for anything more.
